My First-Hand Experience With Our Pregnancy and Gestational Diabetes Modules

I’m seven months pregnant with my second child. And although I didn’t have gestational diabetes with my first child, I do have it with this pregnancy. Sure, I was a little concerned when I found out, but I knew that with vigilant monitoring of my blood glucose levels, my baby and I would be ok. As an LOK employee, I’m familiar with our personal health management products. I already use the LOK for Pregnancy Module, which gives pregnant women, like me the ability to track their condition during the entire 40 weeks of pregnancy. Once the baby is born, LOK will automatically generate the newborn’s health profile, which includes pregnancy history, and fetal and genetic information that will accompany the individual through his/her lifetime. It’s great to be able to see my ultrasounds as well as the growth chart of my unborn baby. Very cool!
This isn’t my ultrasound, but you can see how one would look in the LOK for Pregnancy module: Please click on each graphic to enlarge and see the detail.

Besides the LOK for Pregnancy module, I also use our LOK for High-Risk Pregnancy product, which enables me to monitor, chart, and see how my diet impacts my blood sugar levels. This is vital to me—with gestational diabetes I need to keep my levels under control or my unborn baby’s health could be at risk. I’ve been using the LOK for Diabetes since I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes in the first trimester—so far every thing has been under control.
Thankfully, I’ve had no problems and the reason why is because I closely watch my levels—and our health management tools make it so easy. The charts and graphs are clear and easy for me to read and understand.
For instance, I’ve learned that when I eat sushi my blood levels are higher—so I know that I cannot eat too much sushi. And I also know that during the weekends, when my stress levels are lower, my glucose levels are more stable too. Aside from having gestational diabetes, I’m not a diabetic so all this monitoring was something new for me. I received a glucometer from my clinic and typically the only way I could get the data is when I go to the clinic.
But as you can imagine, making those visits are inconvenient. Plus, I can’t see how what I’m eating is affecting my glucose levels until those visits—and that’s not exactly the best thing for my baby. But with this particular LOK product, I can download data directly into my personal health file and track my levels much more closely—I know instantly what they are before and after every meal and can track them much more closely then I would if I was waiting for my weekly or monthly office visits.
Everything is tracked and I can monitor what I eat and see how each meal impacts my levels—if they are too high or too low—I know right away and this gives me peace of mind knowing my baby is safe. What I like best about the product is that I’m in control and I can check my settings for each meal by checking them one hour before I eat and then again after I eat. Another thing that is very important is that I can enter the specific glucose levels that are safe for me into my health file so I can see if my levels are too high or too low. My doctor can give me the general glucose level parameters for gestational diabetes or he can tailor these parameters according to my individual health situation.
Having this information right away is much better than depending on the clinic for a printout of my levels. The best part is that I have all the data and all my medical information with me at all times—since it’s all easily accessible online. Through my LOK file, I can print out a “Health Book” with all my important medical information, which includes all the information I have compiled through the LOK for Pregnancy Module, as well as my gestational diabetes information. I can take it with me to the hospital when it’s time to deliver my baby. This enables me to control my medical information and not the clinic. So far, my experience with this product has been positive. I look forward to updating you with new features and my experiences with them.
All the best,
Billie
